Eilean Dubh 2005
Saturday, 15 April 2006

MM0DFV, MM0GDL and GM0WRROn April 30, 2005 Saturday morning myself John GM0WRR and Jurij MM0DFV met Davie MM3IEB (now MM0GDL) at Troon to load all the supplies onto his cruiser boat. From the slipway we loaded the 5kV generator (heavy), the Heathkit SB-220 power amplifier (heavy), also food and tents, and last but not least the radio equipment, Icom IC-706, Icom IC-735 transceivers, various poles to support the wire antennas (40m band dipole and a doublet). The one vertical antenna we took was the Cushcraft R7. So with all the supplies on board on a calm sunny morning we manouvered out of the harbour. Davie was demonstrating to Jurij and myself the make GPS system used on his boat to tell him so much. Soon we were away from the mainland with the kettle on for coffee and tea, beautiful weather and the odd boat passing as we headed for Eilean Dubh (Black Island). The journey took us by many picture postcard places, and Jurij made good use of his camcorder and digital camera to record the expedition. We got to the island after about four hours on the boat and were able to get close before dropping anchor, then the fun began unloading everything into Davie's dinghy not forgetting the 5kV generator. It took a few trips back and forward to the island to transfer all the equipment.

Eilean Buidhe 2005
Saturday, 15 April 2006

GM4TOQ, MM0DFV and GM0WRROn Saturday morning (28.05.2005) myself John GM0WRR and Jurij MM0DFV set off by van, loaded with all the supplies for the expedition to Eilaen Buidhe (Yellow Island). Our rigs were Icom-706 and Icom-735 transceivers plus manual and automatic tuners, two laptops, aluminium poles, to support the Windom and full size G5RV antenna's. We also took our food and two tents, one smaller than the other. We headed to Collintraive to meet Davie MM3IEB and Alan GM4TOQ. The journey was fine apart from the weather which did not look too promising for working from tents on this small island about 100 by 80 metres. Having met Davie and Alan we looked for a crossing point to the island. We tried one road which led to the beach, an ideal place from which to launch the dinghy. We had already got permission to pass through the land near the old mansion house, so we drove the two vehicles onto the sandy beach to unload all the equipment and supplies, including the 5KVA generator which is a heavy piece of kit. After many trips to the Island we’d just about transferred all our kit and moved the cars away from the beach before the tide came in.
